Double Rainbows

A double rainbow dipped down from the sky.
It was at the garden’s edge
when it caught her eye.

“Come on Mommy, please take my hand.
Let’s look for the pot of gold
where the rainbow stands.”

I paused, then decided to play along
for colors can be fleeting
when winds are strong.

Rainbows are always just out of reach.
As we walked along, this was a lesson
I knew life could teach.

So we traveled together, mile after mile.
knowing dishes and laundry
would wait for awhile.

Finally, my daughter turning looked at me.
She could see that rainbow’s gold
was not meant to be.

Yet, in that cool evening weather
found the treasure of time
and shared it together.
